90% of my "Favorites" have vanished. They were there last evening but they're gone now. I use them frequently.

I use my "Favorites" feature many times a day.  Suddenly today at least 90% have dissapeared.  I've restarted and tried everything I can think unsucessfully.  In addition, I have 6 Windows important downloads that will not download.  I've been trying for
a week.  Anyway, right now I'd just like to get my favorites back.

Hi Sarge5,
Welcome to Microsoft Answers.
We would like to get a better understanding of this issue so we can better assist not only you but other users with similar problems as well.
a)      Did you make any changes to the system?
b)      Which version of internet Explorer do you use?
c)      Which operating system do you use?
Unfortunately you cannot get the favorites back unless you have backed them.
Method 1:
I would suggest you to try a system restore.
Follow the steps mentioned below.
1.      Click the
Start button, type System Restore in the Search box and then click
System Restore (type your password or provide confirmation if prompted).
Then follow the steps in the wizard.
For further reference check the article mentioned below.

Method 2:
You can try to run a Check Disk in order to know whether there are any bad sectors present on the disk.
Follow the steps mentioned below.
You can solve some computer problems by checking a drive or drives for errors.
For example, you can check your computer's primary hard disk to fix some performance issues, or you can check an external hard drive if it's not working properly.
Open Computer by clicking the Start button and then clicking
Computer.

2.      Right-click the drive that you want to check and then click
Properties.
3.      Click the
Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click
Check now.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select
Automatically fix file system errors.
Otherwise, the disk check will report problems but not fix them.
To perform a thorough check, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
This scan attempts to find and repair physical errors on the drive itself, and it can take much longer to complete.
To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both
Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
4.      Click
Start.
Depending on the size of your drive, this might take several minutes.
For best results, don't use your computer for any other tasks while it is checking for errors.
Note
If you select Automatically fix file system errors for a drive that's in use (for example, the partition that contains Windows), you'll be prompted to reschedule the check for the next time you restart your computer.
For further reference check the article mentioned below

Method 3:
It might be that your computer is affected by viruses and malware.
I would suggest you to run an online Anti-virus scan and a Malware scan.

How to Avoid Downloading Malware

Where are you getting the download?

There are malicious people who download valid copies of a popular download, modify the file with malicious software, and then upload the file with the same name. Make sure you are downloading from the developer's web page or a reputable company.

Don't install download manager

Many sites suggest or require you to install an installer or a download manager before allowing you to download a program you may be interested in downloading. These tools almost always cause your computer more problems and may even have malware or other spyware. Avoid any site claiming anything must be installed first before you can continue with your download.

Avoid advertisements on download pages

To help make money and pay for the bandwidth costs of supplying free the software, the final download page may have ads. Watch out for anything that looks like advertisements on the download page. Many advertisers try to trick viewers into clicking an ad with phrases like "Download Now", "Start Download", or "Continue" and that ad may open a separate download.

Cancel or deny any automatic download

Some sites may automatically try start a download or give the appearance that something needs to be installed or updated before the site or video can be seen. Never accept or install anything from any site unless you know what is downloading.
