Drag across the row or columns

When I select a cell and want to copy the formula dragging it across rows and/or columns it does not let me do it.
I was always able to click in the corner and dragg the format to all the cells i wanted to but can't any longer.  I am note sure if it is
that I have pressed something or deselcted comething or why excel is not letting me do it?

To be clear, can you confirm that you:
• Click and hold the left mouse button on the drag handle
  (little black box in the lower right corner of the active cell)
• Drag that handle across and/or down to extend the formula
...and that is not working
If that is true, what action are you getting?
...Does that just select different cells without extending the formula?

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Restart your computer.
