Can't determine if "restore points" are being saved on external backup drive with the system image.

I purchased a 1,000 GB external drive just for backing up my new Dell computer (Windows 7).
While I'm certain the system image is backing up to the external drive, I wonder (by the space used & folders shown there) where the restore points are going.
I
do see a short list of restore points to choose from when I open "Restore My Files," but how can I determine which drive they are stored on.
Also, I can't get more than one system image to save on this huge drive, even though I've got the backup space set
to over 500 GB & have told Windows to choose which files are saved.

 I would like to know if you are referring to "System restore" points or "Restore points of file backup" when you mentioned that "I do see a short list of restore points to choose from when I open "Restore My Files”.
Step 1:
 If you are referring to "System restore" points, by default the system restore points are saved in "System Volume Information - a hidden protected operating system folder" in each disk that is 500 MB or larger and to manage the disk space

 Related to System image issue, by default, Windows automatically saves as many system images as it has space for without taking up more than 30 percent of space on the backup disk.
Once the disk starts running out of room, Windows deletes
older system images.
You can set Windows to retain as many system images as it has space for on the backup disk or to only keep the most recent system image.
You should always keep the most recent system image.
If you have configured your external hard drive
as network location and saving your system image on it, then you can only keep the most recent system image.
To change the amount of space that is used by system image backups,
a) Click System image.
b) Click Change settings.
c) You can now choose to have Windows save older system image backups or just the most recent system image backup.

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.

NOTE: You might receive an error message that states:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

• Go to theStart button.
• Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
• Select "Run as Administrator".
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.
